This is the future home of a great Moody Blues page.. I hope...

The Moody Blues are easily my (Tim's) favorites! I will try to get the best MIDI and real audio files available on the web and link to them here. Then i will add links to Moody Blues sites that have other information...there are plenty of great places to visit!

My favorite Moody Blues Songs

If I were to be asked what my favorite Moodies song was, I might give a different answer every week of my life. Today (2/25/98), I would shock everyone in the large flock of Moodies followers by saying that it is definately "Painted Smile" from the Long Distance Voyager LP. Others that are certainly in contention for that honor include "For My Lady" off Seventh Sojourn, "Emily's Song" , and, of course, "Nights in White Satin" from Days of Future Passed. In the past I have had many songs that have caught my attention for many days or weeks as a favorite. For example, I can recall when I was obsessed with hearing "The Story In Your Eyes" off Every Good Boy Deserves Favour...or last summer when the Moodies played "Eternity Road" from To Our Children's Children's Children I went into a love affair with that one for awhile. In fact, I doubt there isn't a Moodies album without at least one song that I haven't considered my favorite at one time or another! For a more complete look at my favorites, check out this link for my Top 20 Moody Blues songs! My favorite album is another matter. I have always loved Long Distance Voyager. It is the first Moodies album I bought, and is remarkable in that I can listen to it all day and not have to skip songs (except "Gemini Dream"...more than a few repetitions in a single day can be too much sometimes!). I love the song "Nervous" and "In My World" in addition to the big hit "The Voice". I realize that many others won't share my opinion, but then I was too young to remember the first seven albums when they were released. I also understand critcizm of the album such as too much keyboards, etc. I think of Long Distance Voyager as a triumphant return to glory after an only mediocre Octave album.

My Moody Blues Story

I was born in 1968. This makes me an unlikely candidadte to be as big a fan of the Moody Blues as I am, since most of their biggest hits came before I was 5 years old. My father was the one who played the music in the house for us. I didn't know what the music was or what it was about then. It wasn't until Long Distance Voyager came out in 1981 that I began to understand who I was listening to and how their sound was different from the other music. My father played that tape repeatedly that summer. At first, I didn't like it since it was my father's music and I was 13, but later it became a foundation to appreciate all of the Moody's music. Five years and a couple albums later, I found myself away from home at college. Suddenly, I was also away from much of the judgemental comnform-or-else attitude of high school. I could be an individual without being judged too harshly. In that atmosphere, I could play the Moodies and grow to love them! I began to collect the old records as quickly as my tiny budget would allow....with Long Distance Voyager as my first purchase. Before long, I had either purchased or taped from others a full set. Since then I've managed to make it to several concerts and own all the Moodies material on CD. I have not gotten into buying the solo material from the group yet, but somehow I know that day is coming.
